Jessica's
work is truly organic, embodying senses of nature, movement, and
the feminine. The dynamic aspect of her pen and ink work leads the
eye from typically "static" imagry, into a dynamic and flowing
collection of imagination, subtle iconic inferences, and
emotion...beyond the black and white of her inks.
In essence, Jessica's work pushes the bounds of Orientable Textures, giving life to her imagery, while also adding in a slight sense of spatial symbolism, prompting the viewer to investigate the dynamic composition more thoroughly. Utilizing directly contrasting tones, Gerome's work is also an incredible investigation of both negative and positive composition, while rendering imagery within the two.
Commenting on her work, Jessica mentions, "Like a static kaleidoscope, combinations of shapes and textures can create a sense of movement in the stillness of a page, and a sense of harmony from a seemingly incidental pile of odds and ends.
I've been picking up and collecting random little objects since I was a tiny kid.
After a while it became fun to put them all together in ways that seemed complimentary. Like the objects I picked up were puzzle pieces, creating continuity from chaos.
I enjoy the process of designing aesthetically pleasing patterns out of various forms, be it through three dimensional objects or textures in drawings."
