Mark Whistler’s college education focused on finance and art history / studio, a rare combination within today’s world. Mark first worked at Circle Fine Art from 1996 to 1997, prefaced by an internship assisting icon Peter Max during a Denver opening.
At the time, Circle Fine Art was the world’s largest art publisher, though the company soon fell victim to the larger economic downturn as the dot.com bubble burst.
In 2007, Whistler opened the Mark Whistler Gallery in Baltimore, Maryland with the intent of creating a “people's gallery” seeking to transcend the typical elitist attitudes that too often run wild within most art communities.
In late 2008, Whistler closed the gallery for a larger move to New York City.
However, the Mark Whistler Gallery lives on though the Internet, remaining a “people’s gallery”, where both established and aspiring artists are able to show their work.
Whistler states, “Art is simply too important to allow traditional "art-world elitism" from providing aspiring artists the opportunity to show their work.”
Recent activity within the Art Community by Mark Whistler includes:
• Art Opening - Santa Fe First Friday Art District - HPTA Grand Opening Reception - May 6, 2011
• Children's Hospital Foundation | Giddy Up Gala Benefit | Art Auction | Donated Painting
• The Mask Project 2012 | Invited to be a Contributing Artist for Event in May 2012 | Stay Tuned for More Updates
