Stephanie MacCarragher
Denver • Colorado
Painter | Mixed Media
Stephanie MacCarragher is an exceptionally talented woman from
Denver, Colorado, which the Mark Whistler Gallery is ecstatic to
have on its roster of incredible modern artists.
Active in art since she was a child, MacCarragher’s contemporary
style interlaces a hint of ancient themes with architecture, and
bright, bold, warm colors.
Stephanie pushes the boundaries of her materials by literally
soaking 300-pound paper in water, then working the medium with
pastels. The process of working with the paper while still damp
“compresses the pastels” creating intense “solid but varied
colors”, which produces vibrant tones, while still maintaining the
original integrity of the pastels.
MacCarragher’s oil paintings transcend simple expressionist works,
cultivating imagery from history, the feminine, and icons, which
consist of a flat surface eloquently merged with stylized lines. In
addition, Stephanie’s work displays hints of Third Wave Feminism
(Post-Feminism), embracing the celebration of motherhood and the
historical interpretation of women’s role within society.
Stephanie’s recent exhibitions in Denver include: Sense of Art
festivals, Revoluciones Gallery, Mary Jo Keller Studio, Colorado
Art for AIDS, Scott Lyon ”Porkshop Show”, and the All Colorado Show
in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
